Regional Youth Defender Centers
The Gault Center invites and welcomes all defenders of young people to participate in a range of ongoing programs and activities. Please consider engaging with your local regional youth defender center, applying to become an Ambassador for Racial Justice, applying for our Youth Defender Advocacy Program Summer Academy, and signing up for any of our listserv groups.
The Gault Center collaborates with nine Regional Youth Defender Centers. Each Center coordinates activities in the states within its region and keeps the Gault Center connected to the front lines of youth defense. Regional Centers offer targeted state-based training and technical assistance, provide case support for complex or high-profile cases, and facilitate organizing and networking opportunities for youth defenders.
Each Regional Center is led by two or more co-directors who are accomplished or emerging youth defense leaders and by Advisory Boards drawn from every state within the Region.
Become an Ambassador for Racial Justice
The Gault Center and the Georgetown Juvenile Justice Clinic & Initiative developed this program to equip and inspire frontline youth defenders to assume leadership roles in developing strategies to combat racial injustice in their respective jurisdictions and courthouses and throughout the country.
Join the Youth Defender Advocacy Program
Each summer, in partnership with Georgetown Law’s Juvenile Justice Clinic & Initiative, we host Summer Academy, a weeklong intensive Youth Defender Advocacy Program (YDAP) training for 42 youth defenders selected from a national pool of applicants. The program, which covers both substantive law and trial skills, is crafted to fit the needs of both new and experienced youth defenders and is available by application only.
