Opinion: Trump is stoking fears about D.C.’s crime but the city is safer than it’s been in decades.
Georgetown University Law Center Associate Professor Eduardo Ferrer penned this op-Ed on regarding the narrative that there is a “rise” in violent crime in D.C. This narrative is being used to justify regressive tough-on-crime policies that do not improve public safety. Professor Ferrer discusses the perception versus the reality of crime statistics and data, including the distortions of violent crime by media and social media. The op-ed also explores sustainable safety interventions and solutions that included direct investments in youth and families of the District.
